Primescope Diagnostics was born out of passion. Healthcare providers by calling, we originally had no intention of founding a lab. We were already working in our field of passion — helping the members of our community on a daily basis.
Then the pandemic struck. As emergency physicians on the frontlines, our patient volume increased by tenfold — both the sick and those worried they’d been exposed. Responsible for both screening and appropriately treating our patients, we soon realized that the rapid antigen tests simply were not as reliable. So, like many physicians and providers, we switched to the gold standard, RT-PCR testing.
But there was a tradeoff. Day in and out, we experienced the frustrating and sometimes gut-wrenching process of waiting as long as 5 days for results, sometimes longer. Our quarantined patients would agonize over whether they had infected family and friends while losing crucial income. Patients would often miss out on as much as a full week of work, only to find out that their results were negative after all.
Unfortunately, we know this is the situation that persists across most of the country. Most doctors are powerless to do much about the process — the system is just too backed up. This sometimes leads patients to opt for antigen tests, which has a higher false negative rate.
As physicians with a passion for providing care to those in most need, we began to feel that the options we could offer frankly needed to be better. We didn’t see the sense in subjecting our patients to days of quarantined agony when RT-PCR testing just doesn’t take that long.
We started asking questions. Why should we wait on results from overloaded labs, when some emergency rooms receive results from their own PCR machines in hours? This system wasn’t built for us. We realized the limits we were subjected to were unnecessary.
So we removed them, and Primescope Diagnostics was born. We founded a lab that provides specialized services to fellow healthcare workers that can’t access a PCR machine of their own. Our small scale allows us to return results in in hours, not days.
As healthcare providers, we all entered this field to help others. Especially during a global pandemic, it is unacceptable for our healthcare options to be limited by surmountable constraints. We are here to provide you with the resources you need to help your community — without the long wait. We are working to disrupt the way COVID-19 testing is done, and create something better.
